双语新闻:英语系举办荷马史诗《奥德赛》读书会活动

2018年5月10日,英语系在综合楼五楼语音室举办了荷马史诗《奥德赛》的读书分享活动,本次活动有幸邀请到我院张瑞红博士及其科研团队——中西比较文学与文化团队。其成员:靳相茹、李艳玲、周思思、薛冬岩、刘含颖、姬振亭、于谨老师出席本次活动,结合同学们的疑问对《奥德赛》进行深层次解读。

张瑞红老师首先解答了同学们最疑惑的问题“为什么荷马史诗《奥德赛》是西方文学的奠基之作?”,内容涉及文学、历史、社会学等领域的知识,瞬间激发起同学们的思考兴趣。紧接着结合相关问题为同学们解读了古希腊文化中的人神关系、以“微信朋友圈点赞”为例为同学们生动形象地讲解了人类建构自我的概念及其运行机制、带领大家从心理学中的自我建构角度体会了奥德修斯的漂流经历并且解读了他的结局,然后张老师解读了古希腊社会性质转变在奥德赛中体现方式及其与《周易》的联系。李艳玲老师从专业角度带领大家分析了《奥德赛》与《西游记》的异同,现场气氛十分欢快。最后张老师就《奥德赛》的现世意义向同学们发问:奥德修斯的归家之路就是他认识和发现自我的旅程,某种意义上人人都是奥德修斯,那么现代社会中我们都认清自己了吗?21世纪的人类认清自己了吗?这个问题令同学们陷入沉思,也使同学们领略了《奥德赛》超越时空的惊人魅力。

本次读书会活动解决了同学们对于《奥德赛》的一系列疑问,对荷马史诗《奥德赛》有了更深层次的理解和认识,提高了同学们的阅读兴趣;同时提前接触了一些学术性理论和知识,拓宽了同学们的思路和知识面,可以说是一场思想上的饕餮盛宴,对同学们的阅读起到了极大的引导作用。活动结束后不少同学表示意犹未尽。在接下来的数周之内,英语系还将继续举办关于《奥德赛》的读书会活动。

English Department Held Reading and Sharing Meeting of the Homeric epic Odyssey

 On May 10, 2018, the English Department held a reading and sharing meeting of the Homeric epic Odyssey in the language lab on the fifth floor of the Comprehensive Building. Dr. Zhang Ruihong and some members from her research team ---The Chinese and Western Comparative Literature and Culture were invited to attend our reading and sharing meeting. They are: Jin Xiangru, Li Yanling, Zhou Sisi, Xue Dongyan, Liu Hanying, Ji Zhenting and Yu Jin. They made an in-depth interpretation on the Homeric epic Odyssey combining with the questions from the students collected in advance.

At the beginning, Professor Zhang Ruihong answered the question which confused students most: why the Homeric epic Odyssey is the foundation of western literature?  The answer involved knowledge of literature, history, sociology, etc., which greatly stimulated their interest in thinking. Then, Ms. Zhang interpreted the relationship between mankind and gods in ancient Greek. After that, Ms. Zhang interpreted the concept of the self-construction and its operating mechanism vividly by using the example of giving likes in WeChat. In this way, students were able to learn Odyssey’s journey home from the angle of psychology and get a better understanding of Odyssey’s ending. And then Ms. Zhang interpreted some part of Odyssey which mentions the transformation of the social nature in ancient Greece. Besides, Ms. Li Yanling led a discussion on the similarities and differences between Odyssey and The Journey to the West from the professional angle, and the atmosphere was very cheerful. Finally, students were asked to think over these questions: Odysseus’s journey home is his journey of constructing himself, we can say everyone is Odysseus. In the 21st century, did you ever recognize yourself?  Did the mankind recognize themselves? These questions set everyone thinking and enabled them to seize the amazing charm of the Homeric epic Odyssey beyond time and space.

This reading and sharing meeting not only solved the students’ doubts and confusions about the Homeric epic Odyssey, but also aroused the students’ interest in reading. Meanwhile, learning some academic theories in advance can be helpful in broadening the students’ horizon and scope of knowledge. This meeting can be regarded as a thoughts feast that has played a great role in guiding students' reading.
