双语新闻:学院深入支教单位开展英语示范课教学观摩活动

12月14日,学院党委书记胡俊祥、副院长张淑云一行6人深入顺平神南中学和大悲中学开展英语示范课教学观摩活动。示范课由英语系王子贤、刘杨两位老师分别面向两所学校初一年级学生讲授。参加观摩课的人员有两所学校校长、教务负责人和全体英语教师共计22人。

在大悲中学,王子贤老师运用思维导图进行讲解,以课文的主题做关键词,运用图文并重的技巧,将课文按照层级进行“解构”,引导学生按照课文内部逻辑关系填写各级关键词或词组,之后要求学生根据思维导图将课文进行“重构”,能够运用课文中相关词汇和句型进行复述。在“解构”——“重构”的过程中,让学生在有限的时间内对“词汇—句型—篇章”形成完整的认识。在神南中学,刘杨老师通过词汇引入,并通过游戏进行词汇输出,以检验学生对文章词汇的掌握情况。通过篇章阅读引入语法及练习,以巩固学生对语言知识点的掌握程度。

示范课后,两位老师分别与两所学校英语教师就英语教学体系设计进行了交流和探讨,她们建议英语教师筛选上课内容,尤其要通过各种课堂内+课堂外活动增强学生“说”和“读”的能力。在英语师资匮乏的背景下,要克服困难,集体协作进行备课。两校师生对学院践诺、务实的支教行为给予了高度评价,一致认为,通过优质示范课教学观摩,有效促进了青年教师教学能力的提升,大大提高了学生对英语学习的兴趣。

学院与神南中学支教合作始于今年1月份,教学实践育人基地于6月份正式挂牌,双方达成了长期合作关系。自合作以来,学院先后选派3名优秀教师实地开展英语示范课教学观摩活动,3名本科生开展为期66天的英语支教活动。此次支教范围由神南中学又拓展到位于深山区的大悲中学。此次活动是学院李保国扶贫志愿服务队持续开展系列支教活动的一项重要内容。(作者:王子贤  刘 杨)

Two Demonstration Classes Offered to the Support Teaching Units

On Dec.14th, Hu Junxiang, party chief and Zhang Shuyun, vice dean from College of Foreign languages, together with other 4 teachers, visited support teaching units—Shen Nan junior high school and Da Bei junior high school in Shun Ping county, to carry out English demonstration lessons which were to be given by Wang Zixian and Liu Yang from English Department separately to the grade one students. Two schools’ principals, directors of educational affairs and all the English teachers, 22 members in total, participated in the demonstration lessons.

At Da Bei junior high school, Wang Zixian applied mind-mapping into her teaching. Treelike visualization scheme of mind map is useful for training learner’s divergent thinking ability. By making title of the text as key word and picture-text relation as guidance, the mind map helped students destruct the text structure according to internal logics. Under its guidance, the students were asked to find the key words or phrases in small groups. After that, they had to “reconstruct” the text based on the mind map and be able to use relative vocabularies and sentence patterns from texts to present retelling. In the process of “destruction”— “reconstruction”, the students formed an overall cognition on “word—sentence—text”. At Shen Nan junior high school, Liu Yang led in her lesson with games, during which the input and output of vocabularies were achieved. Besides, to enhance the students’ mastery on language knowledge, she led grammars and practices into readings as well.

After the demonstration lessons, they each exchanged opinions with the English teachers from two schools on the design of English teaching system. They suggested that teachers screen the teaching lessons in the textbook and enhance students’ ability of speaking and reading by carrying out activities both in and out of classes. In the condition of lacking English teachers, they need to overcome difficulties and prepare lessons collectively. The two schools spoke highly of our college’s fulfilment of promises and practical teaching support. They thought accordingly, by observing and learning demonstration lessons of high quality, teaching skills of young teachers had been lifted and students’ interest had been greatly aroused in learning English.

The cooperation between our college and Shen Nan junior high school began in January this year, and Teaching Practice and Education Base was officially established in June. Both sides had reached an agreement on a cooperation relationship in long run. Since the cooperation, our college has sent 3 excellent teachers to offer English demonstration lessons. Meanwhile, 3 undergraduates were sent to carry out 66-day English support teaching activity. This support teaching has expanded from Shen Nan junior high school to Da Bei junior high school which is located in remote mountains as well. The demonstration lesson is a significant part in the support teaching activities being continuously carried out by our Li Baoguo Voluntary Service for Poverty Alleviation.
